HEADGEAR

Tools used ...........my headgear.........the glue is the white powder the yellow stuff is the strawberry flavoring

Dr. Yamashiro putting in the mouth expander and drying the glue.. .. My mouth expander

This is the headgear I wear at night

I got my headgear and my "uptop thing". It didn't hurt getting it put on. The headgear is annoying but I am getting used to it. The worst part is the food getting stuck in it! My mom got me a waterpic for at home and a syringe for my teacher to use at school. Eating is getting easier. I can get the food out with my tongue now. My mom bought me lots of jello, yogurt, and applesauce to eat! My mom will turn it tonight so I will let you know how that was. That's it.

TEETH

Waiting in the office.............. My teeth............. Getting the mould done

Count to 10 for it to set.. Brushing away the goop..... The spacers

Putting in the spacers.. All done until next week!

Yesterday I went to the dentist office. They took a mould of my teeth. I had to bite down. It didn't hurt. They put four blue things in my teeth. That didn't hurt. That's it.

Note from Lily's mom - Lily's upper jaw sits behind and inside her lower jaw. She is going to get a mouth expander which she will wear for around 22 months. It will involve an expander in her mouth that is connected to head gear that will go from her forehead down to her chin. We decided we would keep a picture journal of this so others who go through this know what will happen. Besides helping with making room for her teeth it might also help with sleep apnea. Individuals w/Ds have flat facial features that sometimes push on the airway behind the nasal cavity causing the airway to narrow. We actually went to an orthodontist.

MY BROTHER WINS!

My brother Tim won an award for being a good brother. He is nice to me. He helps me and I love him. He is a smart boy.
Note from Lily's mom: Tim won the Sibling of the Year Award (brother) at the 2008 Family Links Conference. Family Links is an annual conference put on by the Utah Parent Center for families of children and youth with disabilities.
